Do you have an extra room in your home and have no idea what to do with it? Well this is a chance to put aside the typical must-haves and necessities of your home. You can now show off your creativity and express your individuality. You can do whatever you want with your extra room as there are endless possibilities out there. Here are a few suggestions for your extra room.
Game Room
This is probably one of the most common ideas people would use with their extra space. If you have children, you can build a game room for them. You can decorate the walls colorfully with children’s art and include an art table for the kids. You can also put a toy chest in there so you can contain their toys to just that room instead of the rest of the house. Or if you don’t have children (or if you want the game room for yourself), you can turn the game into an arcade or bar atmosphere. Include a pool table or a foosball table for your family and guests to enjoy. And you can’t go wrong with a mini-bar in an adult game room. In fact, you probably can’t go wrong with a mini-bar in any room.
Home Theater
Another popular idea for an extra room is a theater room. You can set up a huge flat-screen or even a projector to enjoy your favorite movies on. To get the full movie viewing experience, you should consider getting a good 5.1 Doby surround sound speaker system. If you don’t want to spend your money on a new system, you can often find slightly used systems for just a portion of the retail price in the stores. You have some options for seating in a theater room. You can make it feel more like an actual theater with individual theater seats. Or you can arrange couches around the room for more comfort. Make sure you have shades or blinds that will block all outside light from getting in. Oh, and don’t forget the popcorn maker!
Personal Library
If you aren’t much into games or movies and would rather spend your time enjoying a good book, consider making your extra bedroom into a personal library. You can purchase a bunch of stacking bookcases from your local IKEA and fill up a wall, or two, or all your walls with them. If you have a lot of vertical wall space, get yourself a rolling ladder. Be sure you include some comfortable furniture for you to enjoy your reading. And try to arrange the room to let the most natural light in.
Fitness Room
If the commute is your excuse to avoid the gym, then you can put together a gym of in your own home with the extra room. Fill it up with stretching mats, free-weights, and maybe a cardio machine. Investing in your own equipment and working out in your own home rather than having a gym membership will save you money in the long run. But if you have children, make sure you use extra precaution when the room is unused.
